A If you are looking to slipcover your couch, don’t think of it as a chore think of it as a way to change the look of your home for a fraction of the cost. The most important key to ordering a slipcover for your couch is to make sure your measurements are correct. You gave very little room for error here. If you order too big then the slipcover will look oversized and if you cut too small then it is going to look funny. But in either case it may be better to be too big than too small.

Take your measurements to a upholstery place and tell them exactly what you are looking for. If you can have a picture taken of the couch that you want to cover. Most stores and online stores will have details and dimensions so you really can’t go wrong. These places have slipcovers for chairs, loveseats, sectionals and sofas. They will show you some swatches and then you can see for yourself what the fabric is going to feel like and what it looks like. Then it may take a few weeks in order to get the slipcovers and then you can take them home.

Slipcovers are so easy to put on, if they are fitted right then you can simply slide the fabric over the furniture and you can adjust the extra fabric if there is any. First take the center of the cover, on most slipcovers there will be a sticker. Then drape the slipcover over the sofa and then pull the fabric down so it touches the floor on all sides evenly. Then locate the arms of the slipcover which will be marked and pull on them. They are sturdy so don’t worry about pulling too hard. Then lift the back of the seat cushion and place the elastic under the back and push down and under. Smooth out the creases and you are finished.

Some slipcovers when they come in from the factory come in wrinkled. So in order to get the wrinkles out, toss the slipcovers into the cloths dryer and use a damp cloth for about 5 to 10 minutes on a very low heat and the wrinkles will go away. Most slipcovers are machine washable in cold water and use a very mild detergent and do not use bleach. Then line dry or set on tumble dry. Some people like to wash the covers when they get them because of the packaging smell that comes with them from the factory. Some people just like to spray them with Febreeze. It is up to you what you want to do. It may be easier to decide what you are going to do before you put the covers on. It may be too much of a hassle to take the covers on and off.
